Time and time again I am touched by the beauty of the patterns that can be found in nature, repetition, growth and decay. My aim is to capture something of that beauty in my jewellery. Fascinated by the structures I find in plants, animals and everything that grows, I observe all those features and follow the movements in the patterns.

I explore, draw and experiment with the details I have found and work directly in metal, fusing shapes and structures and rearranging them. In this way, I am looking for new shapes that surprise me just like all those details in nature do. That is what is most important to me: it is that small change in shape that can evoke the sense of natural structures.
Translating those shapes into a piece of jewellery – a wearable miniature – is like a puzzle to me. In my mind I make the designs layer by layer and in the first models it becomes tangible. My focus is then on refinement. Working towards the moment when a piece of jewellery, made of steel, silver or gold is in balance and wearable.

My years of experience in restoring works of art instilled into me the subtleties of the art of goldsmithery throughout the ages and I use this intuitively in the designing process. It has become an invaluable aspect of my work.
